The Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has expressed satisfaction with the pace and standards of key road projects across the state, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to timely delivery and quality infrastructure.

After the first day of a week-long inspection of three priority projects — Nembe-Brass Road, Agbura-Oxbow Lake Road, and Akaba-Okodi Road — Committee Chairman, Retired Colonel Bernard Kenabai, credited the progress to proper funding and effective oversight.

He commended the state’s leadership, notably the Governor and the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, for keeping consistent pressure on contractors while upholding quality benchmarks. He also acknowledged the support of the Society of Civil Engineers in strengthening the oversight process.

Adding his voice, Rt Hon Monday Obolo-Bobou, Leader of the House, praised the administration’s timely payments to contractors as a major factor for the smooth execution so far. He, however, cautioned against delays and urged contractors to proactively increase resources where needed to avoid cost escalations.

During the site visit to Nembe-Brass Road, Hon Timi Agala Omubo (Brass Constituency 2) called the project a “lifeline” for his community, hailing the Governor’s vision for initiating such a transformational effort in the state’s most challenging terrain.

Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, Yenagoa Chapter, Engr Ede Lucky Azibaediri, commended the Assembly’s collaboration with professional bodies, noting that their involvement would enhance the durability and long-term success of the projects.

The Site Manager of the construction firm disclosed that one of the ten planned bridges on the Nembe-Brass corridor is fully completed, with superstructure work ongoing on the second and piling underway for the third and fourth. Despite minor setbacks caused by rainfall, he confirmed that funding and community relations remain solid.
