Dr. (Barr.) Johnson Amaowei Dagana hails from Odi Community in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He had his Primary and Secondary Education at State School II Diobu and Stella Maris Collage all in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Dr. (Barr.) Johnson A. Dagana holds a B.A, M.A and Ph.D Degrees respectively in History and Diplomatic Studies from the University of Port Harcourt.
However, his yearning for Knowledge further spurred him to obtain a Post Graduate Diploma in International Affairs (PGDIA) from the University of Port Harcourt and a LL.B degree in Law from Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt respectively. Dr. (Barr.) Dagana later proceeded to the Nigeria Law School, Abuja and was called to the Nigerian Bar and registered with the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He joined the services of the old Rivers State Unified Local Government Services in 1992 as a Personal Officer II. As a staff of the Local Government Service, he gained vast experience traversing the various Administrative Departments and units in the different Local Government Areas.
In course of his dedication to duties and loyalty to the course of his assignment and experience gained, he rose steadily through the ranks culminating in his promotion as Director (Administration/General Services) and later to the esteemed position as Head of Local Government Administration in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
In recognition of Dr. (Barr.) Dagana’s outstanding performance to duty, high sense of responsibility and unflinching loyalty, he was granted transfer of Service to the Bayelsa State Civil Service from the Local Government Service and elevated to the position of Permanent Secretary in 2016 and deployed to the Ministry of Environment.
It is pertinent to mention that Dr. (Barr.) Dagana has during the period of service received extensive specialized training (both locally and outside the country) in Personal Management, Civil Service Efficiency and Effectiveness as well as Human Resources Management. The knowledge and experience gained has culminated in his publication of two (2) Scholarly articles on Local Government Administration and Personnel Management respectively in reputable Books and Journals.
Dr. (Barr.) Dagana is the current Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. As the administrative head and Accounting Officer of the Ministry, he has successfully coordinated the supervision of several high profile infrastructural and legacy projects in Bayelsa State. Some of such projects include the Construction of Bayelsa International Airport, Glory Drive Phase II and AIT-Igbogene Ring Road; Bayelsa Terminal Building, Igbogene; Judges Quarters, Opolo and the Bayelsa State Ecumenical Centre, etc.
The hobbies of Dr. (Barr.) Dagana who is an accomplished administrator par excellence include reading and playing of football. Infact, he is at the moment the National President of All Sports Supporters Club Worldwide and has contributed immensely to Sports development in Nigeria. He is happily married and blessed with children.
