The Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has lauded Governor Douye Diri for his unwavering dedication to the state’s projects. The commendation came from the House Committee Chairman on Works, Retired Colonel Bernard Kenibai, during a press briefing on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the House of Assembly Complex in Yenagoa, following a three-day comprehensive visit to major project sites.

Commitment to Prosperity

Retired Colonel Kenibai highlighted the committee’s admiration for the commitment, supervision, and execution of projects at all sites, emphasizing that this is a testament to the realization of the promise of ASSURED prosperity. He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being delivered and appreciated the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure and his team for their supervisory role.

Ensuring Quality and Standards

The House Committee Chairman assured Bayelsans of their continued role in maintaining quality and standards at all times, ensuring that appropriated funds are utilized effectively for projects, as evidenced by the tour of project sites.

Call for Federal Support

Retired Colonel Kenibai also used the opportunity to appeal to the President Tinubu-led federal government to support the Bayelsa State Government in its infrastructural drive, particularly concerning the three senatorial roads, to swiftly open up the state to the potential of the marine and blue economy.

Overcoming Challenges

Speaking on the challenges, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, ESV Moses Teibowei, noted that despite the peculiar Bayelsa terrain, which makes development very expensive, the Prosperity Government of Governor Diri remains committed to executing people-oriented projects to bring ASSURED prosperity to all Bayelsans.

Project Visits

On the third day of the oversight function, the committee visited several key projects, including the Toru-Orua/Bulou-Orua, Kebeama, Okumbiri, Amatolo/Toru-Ebeni Road; the Polaku-Sabagreia Road and Bridge; and the Akaba-Okodi Road Phase 1.

This comprehensive oversight function underscores the Bayelsa State Government’s dedication to infrastructural development and the continuous pursuit of prosperity for its citizens.
