Dualized Road 24 (Collector Road) with Bus Lanes at Okaka, Yenagoa LGA

Home » Dualized Road 24 (Collector Road) with Bus Lanes at Okaka, Yenagoa LGA

The dualization of Road 24 (Collector Road) with bus lanes was initially awarded to L&D Nigeria Limited in 2012 under the Restoration Government of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, former Governor of Bayelsa State. This project was conceptualized to address the rapid expansion of Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, which has experienced significant growth over the years due to increasing commercial activities and population influx.

The dualization project faced delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and funding challenges. However, the Prosperity Government, led by His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, deemed the project economically vital and prioritized its continuation. In February 2020, the project was revalidated and re-awarded to L&D Nigeria Limited for completion.

The dual carriageway spans approximately 1.475 km, with each lane measuring 9 m wide and including a 2 m shoulder on both sides. Notable features of the road include:

  • A 15 m diameter roundabout.
  • A central median 1.5 m wide, flanked by dual drainage systems.
  • Two layers of asphalt, consisting of a 60 mm binder course and a 40 mm wearing course, adhering to modern construction standards.
  • Solar-powered streetlights along the entire stretch of the road.

The road also functions as a collector route, integrating neighborhood streets and linking to Sani Abacha Road, thereby fostering improved commercial and economic activity within the state.

Road 1 (Dual Carriageway) of the New Yenagoa City Internal Roads

The vision of a New Yenagoa City was conceptualized by the Restoration Government under Senator Henry Seriake Dickson to create a well-structured and planned urban area aimed at decongesting the existing state capital while offering a modern aesthetic. This ambitious city project required extensive construction of internal roads to support the seamless movement of goods, services, and people.

In line with this vision, the Prosperity Government under Senator Douye Diri commenced the construction of internal roads within New Yenagoa City. The project was awarded to Lubrik Construction Company, a reputable firm with a proven record of excellence. The contract commenced on April 5, 2023.

Road 1 is a 2.1 km dual carriageway with a width of 7.3 m on each lane and a 2 m shoulder on both sides. Key features include:

  • A 4 m wide central median.
  • Drainage systems with concrete slabs that double as walkways on either side.
  • Two layers of asphalt, comprising a 60 mm binder course and a 40 mm wearing course.

The completion of these projects underscores the Prosperity Government’s commitment to infrastructure development, creating functional roadways that enhance economic growth and the overall living standards in Bayelsa State.
