The Isaac Boro Road dualization project, a landmark initiative, was introduced during the Restoration Government of His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson. This transformative project aimed to decongest traffic and streamline vehicular movement to and from Yenagoa City, facilitating the seamless transportation of goods and services throughout the capital and its environs.
Initially awarded to Julius Berger Nig. Plc in June 2012, the first phase of the project focused on dualizing the single carriageway from Ox-Bow Lake to NIIT Junction, Etegwe (km 0+000 to km 9+747), covering a distance of 9.474 km.
Understanding the critical role this infrastructure plays in Bayelsa State’s economic growth, the Prosperity Government under His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, inherited and continued the project. Phase II addressed the stretch from NIIT Junction, Etegwe (km 9+747) to the Etegwe Roundabout (km 10+202), spanning 455 m and incorporating the construction of the Etegwe Bridge, as well as remodeling and realigning the Brass Street spur at Etegwe.
Etegwe Bridge Design and Features
The Etegwe Bridge is a reinforced concrete single carriageway bridge, 45 meters in length, consisting of two spans of 22.5 m each. It features:
- An 8 m wide driveway.
- Walkways measuring 1.5 m on both sides for pedestrian safety.
Aesthetic and Functional Enhancements
To further enhance the utility and aesthetic appeal of the project, the Etegwe/Ede-Epie Roundabout was redesigned and upgraded. The addition of solar-powered streetlights not only beautifies the area but also improves nighttime visibility and security, creating a safer environment for the surrounding neighborhoods.
This ambitious project, spearheaded by visionary leadership across successive administrations, highlights the commitment to modernizing infrastructure and improving the lives of Bayelsa’s residents. The Etegwe Bridge and the Isaac Boro Road dualization stand as a testament to the Prosperity Government’s dedication to fostering sustainable development in the state.
