New Legislative Quarters

Home » New Legislative Quarters

In recognition of the pivotal role of the legislative arm of government, the ASSURED Prosperity administration of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, has embarked on the construction of the New Legislative Quarters at the New Yenagoa City Government Reserved Area (GRA).

This ambitious project aims to provide a befitting and quality residential accommodation for the members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, while also accelerating the growth and infrastructural development of the New Yenagoa City GRA, which is meticulously planned to meet all standards of physical development.

Project Overview:

The New Legislative Quarters comprise 30 units of duplexes, which include:

  • 1 unit of a 5-bedroom duplex for the Speaker of the House.
  • 29 units of 4-bedroom duplexes for the members of the House of Assembly.

Each unit is thoughtfully separated by a wall demarcation fence to ensure privacy, while the entire quarters is enclosed with a perimeter wall fence. The premises also feature a playground for recreational activities and a security post to ensure the safety of the legislators.

Duplex Features:

Each 4-bedroom duplex includes:

  • En-suite bedrooms with toilet/baths.
  • Two living rooms on the ground and first floors.
  • A standard kitchen fitted with cabinets and a store for food storage.
  • Boreholes and tank stands with treatment tanks to address water needs.
  • Electricity connected through public means and the entire premise is illuminated with solar lights for a bright and secure environment at night.

Project Timeline:

Construction of these units began in May 2023, with indigenous contractors working diligently to maintain a steady and impressive pace. Strict supervision ensured the full completion of all 30 units within the projected timeline.

Infrastructure Development:

The internal roads within the New Legislative Quarters were awarded to a trusted indigenous construction company. The internal roads network consists of a single carriage asphalt road, measuring approximately 985 meters in length with a width of 7.3 meters and a walkway of 1.1 meters on covered drainage on both sides. The single carriageway is finished with two layers of asphalt—a 60mm binder course and a 40mm wearing course—meeting the highest standards for asphalt road construction.

Completion and Commissioning:

The New Legislative Quarters was officially commissioned on February 14, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Bayelsa State’s journey towards progress and development. This project stands as a testament to the Assured Prosperity administration’s commitment to providing quality infrastructure and enhancing the living standards of the legislative arm of government.
