Reconstruction of Otuoke/Onuebum Road: A Lifeline Restored

Home » Reconstruction of Otuoke/Onuebum Road: A Lifeline Restored

The reconstruction of the Otuoke/Onuebum Road, a vital artery for the communities it serves, was awarded to PAACHE Nigeria Limited in February 2023. This critical project came in response to the devastating flood of 2022, which rendered the road completely impassable, causing significant challenges for residents and commuters.

Spanning approximately 6.5 km, the single carriageway has been reconstructed to modern standards. The road measures 7.3 meters in width and includes six culverts, with sandfilling reaching a height of 2 meters to enhance its durability. It is finished with two layers of asphalt: a 60mm binder course and a 40mm wearing course, adhering to recognized standards for flexible pavement construction.

The successful completion of this project has brought much-needed relief to the Otuoke and Onuebum communities. Additionally, it has significantly improved access for thousands of students, lecturers, and staff of the Federal University, Otuoke, as well as others who rely on this route for daily transportation. The newly reconstructed road not only eases travel but also reaffirms the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the region.
