Envisioned as the jewel of Bayelsa State’s infrastructural renaissance, Road 1 of the New Yenagoa City internal roads is a testament to the bold and transformative leadership spanning successive administrations. This ambitious project, which began as a concept during the Restoration Government of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, was conceived to decongest Yenagoa and establish a meticulously planned, picturesque urban environment. The vision was simple yet profound: to open the doors to progress by constructing a modern city on virgin land, complete with an efficient internal road network to facilitate the seamless movement of people, goods, and services.
Realizing the Dream
The Prosperity Government, led by the “Miracle Governor,” His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, embraced this vision and transformed it into reality. On April 5, 2023, the government awarded the construction of internal roads, including Road 1, to the highly esteemed Lubrik Construction Company. Known for their expertise, technical acumen, and world-class equipment, the firm was entrusted to deliver this monumental project within a defined timeframe.
A Road Like No Other
Road 1, a dual carriageway stretching 2.1 kilometers, is nothing short of a modern engineering marvel. With each carriage measuring 7.3 meters in width and flanked by 2-meter shoulders, the road offers ample space for safe and efficient travel. Adding to its grandeur is a 4-meter-wide central median adorned with green features, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
The road’s drainage system is equipped with concrete cover slabs that double as walkways, ensuring pedestrian safety while facilitating water management. Finished with two layers of asphalt—a 60mm binder course and a 40mm wearing course—Road 1 meets the highest standards of durability and performance.
