The vision for New Yenagoa City was birthed by the restoration government of the previous administration, led by Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, aiming to create a meticulously structured and planned city. The selected area for this grand project was pristine land, with 300 hectares acquired in accordance with the Land Use Act, and full compensation was paid for the land improvements.
Project Inception and Purpose
In fulfilling this noble vision, the Prosperity Government, led by His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, initiated the construction of all the dual carriageways as designed by professional town planners. The objective was not only to provide a well-planned residential area but also to accelerate the development of New Yenagoa City GRA, meeting all standards of physical infrastructural development.
Construction Details
Awarded to Lubrik Construction Company Ltd, a reputable construction firm, the project boasts six dual carriageways within the New Yenagoa City GRA. The road under commissioning, Road 2, is a 2.1km dual carriageway with a width of 7.3 meters on either side and 3.1-meter shoulders on each side of the driveway. It features a wide central median, properly concreted and fitted with drainage on both sides. The walkways on either side of the road are covered with concrete slabs, ensuring safety and convenience for pedestrians.
The road is finished with two layers of asphalt—a 60mm binder course and a 40mm wearing course—adhering to the highest standards for asphalt road construction. Additionally, a single carriageway has been constructed in line with approved standards, ensuring seamless access within the GRA.

Significance and Impact
This road has now created access to the newly constructed commissioners’ quarters and legislative quarters, significantly enhancing connectivity and accessibility within New Yenagoa City. The project’s successful completion stands as a testament to the commitment and dedication of the Prosperity Government towards infrastructural development.
Completion and Commissioning
Construction work began in May 2023, with indigenous contractors demonstrating impressive workmanship under strict supervision. The full completion of all planned units was achieved within the projected timeline.
The Road 2 project was officially commissioned on February 15, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Bayelsa State’s journey towards infrastructural excellence and urban development.
